3 Important Things To Do Before You Sell Your Gold For Extra Cash

There is a good reason why investing in gold jewelry or coins is rarely ever considered a waste of money; you can almost always recoup money spent when you need your money back just by selling your gold for cash. Therefore, if you have gold jewelry or coins laying around or tucked away in a jewelry box, you can never really consider yourself completely broke. While pretty much anyone can sell their gold for cash because there are more buyers than ever, there are a few important things you should do before you sell to ensure you get the most money for your gold pieces.

Check to see if the gold you have is worth more than usual.

Most gold buyers will give you a set amount of cash based on the type of gold you have. However, the more upstanding gold buyers will pay you money based on the type of gold and the specific type of piece and its actual value. For example, if you have a piece of name brand antique jewelry or a specific type of gold coin, your piece would automatically be deemed more valuable than just its weight's worth in gold. because of this, it is a good idea to research the gold piece you have and know its actual value before you sell.

Remove gemstones that you want to keep if the buyer does not pay for them.

It is not at all uncommon for a gold buyer to totally disregard gemstones in a gold jewelry piece when making you an offer. This is because most gold buyers don't know enough about the gemstones or who to sell them to to offer a fair or logical price. Therefore, it is a good idea to simply keep the gemstones in certain jewelry pieces if they are of any value and the buyer will not be assuming their value when making an offer.

Clean your gold pieces well so the buyer can give you a fair offer.

If the gold buyer cannot see the piece and its markings, they may not be able to offer you a price for your gold. In some cases, buyers will not by dirty pieces at all because they have a harder time determining what you have and seeing its markings. It is always a good idea to clean up old and soiled gold jewelry before taking them to a buyer.
